New new job

1 min read
Well, silly me. I've completely forgotten to update on here to let everybody know that I have a newer, bigger job than I had before. This time I'm doing pre-vis animation for a blockbuster motion picture slated for 2015!
It's huge, it's eating all my time (except these few weeks we've been on winter break) and I'm absolutely loving it!

As for comic pages, I'm not going to make any promises. I have a few pages well in progress already, so there will be something to show... but not a whole lot. I am definitely sacrificing the comic for my job, but it's hard to complain when you're working on such a big project!

New Job

Hey everybody,

Updates on the comic will be very slow for a while. I start my new job today, and next week I start teaching my college courses on top of it! So I will be plenty busy.
That's not to say that I will stop updating the comic during this fall, I have page 10 nearly done and I'll get to posting it when I can. I've also spent the last week busting my hump on layouts so that I can having something to jump off from when I get free time. I've been working with me for 25+ years, I'm starting to learn how I do things, and if I have something to start from I can produce work even when I'm a little burnt out. So I'm prepared for the long months ahead, as best I can be.

The good news is that I'll finally have some money in my pocket, so when get time to work on the comic I won't have to worry about whether or not I eat.

Hey everybody. So I had a little forewarning that I'd be busy when it came to the wedding and the move, but my mother also went into the hospital earlier in July and I am just now catching up to putting pages out again. My mother is doing fine, she will have a while to recover from surgery, but she's doing well considering what she went through. The doctors (and the family) are pretty proud of her.
As for the comic I'm excited to finally be putting these pages out, because it's just now starting to tell the story. There's so much more I want to get to, and every finished page is closer to the ones I'm really excited for!
More pages to come soon, I'm really getting into the groove of this workflow now.

Comic Updates

...will be slowing down a little bit. I've run out of my stock of penciled pages, so now I'm switching back to that before I can get in and paint more. I'll be doing it the same way as before, do layouts and pencils for 5 pages at a time, that way I can get in and paint 5 at a time. So there will be a gap, followed by a blitz of pages again. I'm getting faster at every step every time I make these pages, but there's one other wrench in the gears everyone should be aware of: I'm going to start moving as of one week from today. My wife and I just got a new house, and all that hullabaloo will have to start next Thursday. Also maybe I get a new job today. That's still waiting on a confirmation phone call, so no guarantees yet.

All in all things are really good! I hope you guys are all doing well too!

Hey Everybody! :onfire:
Figured I would take a quick moment to explain the name change!

It all dates back to my traditional animation 1 course in college. I absolutely love blur frames in traditional animation. It's fascinating to me just how distorted you can make a character and still have the movement feel natural. Taking advantage of this love of blur frames I put it to the test in the obligatory "flour sack" animation used in just about every animation course ever. During the animation I had my sack, complete with bandana, reel up quickly before running off. The transition needed only one frame, so I decided to test the limits of blur frame animation and drew a walrus with sunglasses in my flour sack's place. To my delight, the other students didn't catch it right away, and my professor didn't see it til the second run through. One of my proudest moments in college, because I love messing with stuff and/or people.
Discussing it later with my friends it was pretty much decided that if I ever started a company for art it would be named Secret Walrus.
And if we ever do an intro animation for reels or for post credit bumpers, I have a certain Kate to call on.
Even if I never get to making a company, or calling up Kate to get that voice over, I can at least have fun with the name on here.

Thanks dA, for letting me go back on a 19 year old's uninformed internet related decision. :icondweebdanceplz:
